Uganda's largest and oldest National Park, Murchison Falls (1,503 sq mi), boasts an incredibly diverse landscape. Ranging from dense forests to open savannah to the River Nile snaking through the middle, dividing it into northern and southern sections, it remains one of Uganda's most prized wildlife sanctuaries.
The park is home to some of Africa’s most iconic plains animals, offering visitors the opportunity to witness lions, elephants, giraffe, warthog, hyena and buffalo. The variety of wildlife also includes several species of antelope, such as the Uganda kob, oribi, Jackson's hartebeest and the defassa waterbuck. The elusive leopard is one of the greatest sightings of all, yet it's not uncommon for guests to return with wonderful images of two leopards languishing in a fig tree.
The Delta region is a prime wildlife-viewing location, where the concentration of animals is often at its highest thanks to the abundance of water sources nearby. Adding to the scenery are the Blue Mountains of the Congo, rising beyond the horizon and offering a dramatic contrast to the flat, rolling plains below. The sheer number of animals and birds found here, combined with the raw beauty of the Murchison Falls, makes this national park a top destination for any wildlife and birdlife enthusiast.
