Murchison Falls is a spectacular sight and one that shouldn't be missed on your visit to Murchison Falls National Park.
The top of the Falls is reached by a 15km stretch of tarmac road, that branches off from the Paraa road, on the south side of the park. It's then a short walk from the car park to the iconic Falls and fenced viewpoint allowing you to truly appreciate the deafening roar and thunder of the Nile crashing through an 8 metre gap into the gorge below. A further 20 minute walk leads you to Baker's Viewpoint that looks directly towards Murchison Falls, including Uhuru Falls, which literally separated from Murchison Falls right after Uganda got its independence in 1964.
If you're feeling adventurous a longer walk to the bottom of Murchison Falls and along the Winston Churchill Trail (the route was used by Winston Churchill in 1907) takes approximately 45 minutes. It is well worth it, though the trip back up can feel like a hike so wear good shoes or strong sandals and take a bottle of water and hat. No matter the length of walk you'll get wet (!) so take care of your camera and any personal items.
The Murchison Falls entrance fees and any guided walks exclude the National Park entrance fees.
